With reference to Viscount Harcourt's

1661 Despatch No. 122 of the 20th. May, 1914, I have the honour to

inform you that as a result of correspondence a letter, of

which a copy is enclosed, was addressed to Mr. C. Montague

Ede on the 2nd. December, 1915, giving him an option over the

land required for the proposed Portuguese reservation until

further notice.

As there is now some prospect of the land

being required for another purpose Sir F. H. May caused a

letter to be addressed to Mr. Ede, expressing a wish to with-

-draw the option, and a reply has been received agreeing to

this. I enclose copies of these letters,
